The Bane of my life!

After many months of highs and lows I finally feel ready to talk to you all about the one thing that has given me sleepless nights, kept me working all hours of the day and reduced me to tears on more than one occasion..... my school yearbook!

How it all began...

In our school the staff are asked to sign up for TAAK hours, these are jobs that all staff agree are completely ridiculous but are a legal requirement such as Chief pencil sharpener, hole punch coordinator and colouring-in inspector.

Last year my friend and I signed up to be in charge of the yearbook. It was lots of organising and getting things from members of staff on time which was like getting blood from a stone but overall the responsibility for putting it together was that of the photographer so it all went reasonably smoothly.

Therefore this year I thought ... hell, why not i'll do it again but this year I had the genius idea of compiling it myself. Quite why my friends did not grab me at this point and scream No No NO YOU FOOL I have no idea but alas they didn't and thus I proceeded with the daunting task of designing and making our school yearbook.

Just to give you an idea of the size of this task we are a 3 form entry school with 7 year groups plus a pre-reception class of 21 children. That is around 440 children not to mention the massive staff body with class teachers, teaching assistants, SEN department, EAL department, specialist staff etc etc etc!!!!

It has been a challenging project that I really couldn't have done without alot of help from my friends but overall I hope the final product will make me and everyone that reads it, smile!

So as I near the end of this epic task I am ready to share with you the front cover image of my beautiful much loved yearbook!!

Growing into Adulthood

Today I held a brunch / coffee morning for my friends birthday. Our friend from the UK was here visiting so the night before we had a sleep over and delved back into our teenage years; going out late and sitting up chatting when we got home till the early hours.

This morning we all woke up bright and early to get ready, I sent them off to the bottle bank and the florist while I stayed at home brewing coffee, cutting sandwiches and generally making sure everything was spick and span (i.e. stuffing everything into my bedroom and pressing myself againt the door in the hope it wouldn't spring open during the day spraying my stuff all over unsuspecting passers by!)

Soon enough 11 o'clock came around and my front door began buzzing... the flat became a hubub of activity and noise, it was lovely, Jamie arrived first and promply began mucking in helping lay out the copious amounts of food. Next her mum, and my very dear friend Kathy arrived and placed herself firmly in front of the cooker and began making her delicious sausage/meatball thingys which I could eat a million of and never feel sick!

Shortly after the room began to start smelling of yummy food Jenn, Don and their son Andrew (of blog fame!) arrived and then the guests gradually dribbled in.

Whilst the adults ate smoked salmon sandwiches and sipped coffee Andrew got very excited by the balloons and after an hour or so had to go out for a walk to get rid of some of the excitment that just wouldn't fit into a slightly full; not that big living room. When he got back Jenn (a different one from his mum!) and Jamie were in the process of attempting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on my violin so Andrew decides to have a go too.

After a while Mindy and her husband and their very new baby arrive and as I put the kettle on for the umpteenth time that day i'm struck by the realisation .......

I have finally grown up, and all my friends are grown ups too. I am now doing what I remember my parents doing when I was young and i'll be honest it felt great.

When you haven't Blogged for EVER and EVER you really are a .....

BAD BLOGGER!
